THE 988 LIFELINE CHARITY EVENT will be a major effort to raise awareness about the nationwide hotline and funds to increase the level of care and support for those potentially at risk for suicide and their families.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline –– formerly an 800 number –– is now just 3 presses on a phone, and trained assistance for those in immediate need can be on the way. With an astounding increase in the number of suicides and suicide attempts, the time is NOW to help those we can and save lives. It is our hope that this effort will help make a difference, save lives, and help families. Tell a friend. More people need to know about it.

Get Together Foundation in cooperation with Rock Cellar Productions Presents:

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, established in July 2022, is a crucial lifeline for individuals in mental health crises in the United States. Functioning similarly to 911, but for mental health emergencies, 988 connects callers with trained counselors who provide immediate support and resources. This three-digit number simplifies access to crisis intervention, aiming to reduce the burden on law enforcement and emergency medical services. By offering a direct, immediate, accessible path to help, the 988 sucide prevention hotline represents a significant advancement in the nation's mental health infrastructure, promoting timely assistance, reducing stigma, and potentially saving countless lives through its dedicated, compassionate support system.

The Crisis. The Cause.

The suicide crisis in the USA is a pressing public health emergency, with rates having surged over the past two decades. Contributing factors include economic stress, mental health disorders, substance abuse, and limited access to mental health care. Veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, and young people are particularly vulnerable. The stigma surrounding mental health often prevents those at risk from seeking help. Initiatives like the 988 suicide prevention hotline aim to provide immediate support, but comprehensive solutions require increased funding for mental health services, public education to destigmatize those seeking help, and community-based prevention strategies to address the multifaceted causes of this tragic epidemic.

Co-Producer

TERRELL EDWARDS

To casual observers, Milwaukee native and singer/songwriter Terrell Edwards seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, breaking out with his soulful, seductive voice and clever renditions of classic American standards. This charismatic crooner—often referred to as “the perfect blend between Sinatra & Motown" -- has been endearing audiences around the globe for years with his unique blend of classic jazz, rhythm & blues vocals, engaging storytelling, and catalog of memorable music.

Edwards had the good fortune of finding musical success from the least likely of sources… Jay Leno. After a three-year performance run at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas opening for Leno, it was the comedy icon who encouraged Edwards to move to Los Angeles to further his career. Edwards immediately grabbed the attention of industry leaders as a singer, and also as a songwriter and producer, and soon after became the lead singer for East Bay Soul, the jazz funk band led by Greg Adams (Tower of Power). As a solo artist, Edwards developed "The Unforgettable Show," which pays tribute to some of the greatest jazz and soul artists of our time!

Terrell uses music as a tool to spread messages of positivity and unity -- which is his ongoing mission -- as well as to raise awareness about human issues with compassion and hope. This became even more significant when he was asked to team up with the Get Together Foundation for this project that pays tribute to the incredible Donny Hathaway. "I've sung Donny's songs for years and have always felt a kinship to the man and gift he was to the world," says Edwards. "Donny's untold story parallels my own in many ways."
